John Lodge sang the high falsetto that made Nights and so many other songs sound ethereal when drenched in reverb. Lodge was sleeping with the cameraman's wife, so that is why you don't see him much on camera.

The Moodie Blues defined the late 60's and 70's. A spiritual healing every time I listened to one of their albums. I remember listening to Threshold of a Dream on my 8 track player in my car. One of two best friends was traveling with me (RIP Michael) and we were going from Denton, Texas to Fort Walton Beach Florida. We took highway 98 south from Hattiesburg, Missippi to Mobile, Alabama. When we got to the border of Alabama we took a narrow two lane road to Mobile very, very late at night. We named this road "The Spook Road". (we took this route to see our parents every college holiday for 4 years) It was about 40 miles to Mobile: there were no towns ( A remote Army base off in the trees, no lights at all and just big tall pine trees. This night on The Spook Road we drove with a full moon in the middle of my front wind shield. All of a sudden there was a full eclipse of the moon. With the Moodie Blues playing. It was the most surreal thing I can remember in my life of 76 years,

America was a tough market for the Moodies in later 60s. Tuesday PM did OK reaching #24 in September 1968. However the next two singles, See Saw only reached #61 in October 1968 and this song barely cracked the Hot 100 at #91 in July 1969. The LPs did far better with Lost Chord reaching #23 in December 1968 and Threshold reaching #20 in August 1969. The first Moodies single I purchased was Story In Your Eyes which reached #23 in October 1971. After that I acquired all the Moodies LPs from Days to Sojourn. This is one of my favorite Moodies songs. Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull and ELP were my favorite bands in the early 70s but eventually I made room for the Moodies in my collection.

Serious tuning problems during the flute solo. What was going on? The flute solo is sharp and getting sharper towards the end and then the Mellotron comes in flat. And the John Lodge falsetto so high in the mix. Interesting version..
